Wow, is it already 2012? The year is going by so quickly and so much has happened.

For those of you who don’t know, we outgrew our building in the Mt. St. Francis campus and in August 2011 have made a permanent move to our home at 2760 Fieldstone Road with the opportunity to expand and to provide service in a much larger facility! We also began our Capitol Campaign to help raise funds to buy our new home. We held our first ever, Premier Wine Gala in November and our first Craft Fair in December. So many wonderful things for us to be thankful for!

With the New Year upon us we are gearing up for our annual 5k walk/ run. The 5th Annual April Autism Awareness 5k Walk/ Run will be held in gorgeous America The Beautiful Park in Colorado Springs, on April 21, 2012. This event helps Alpine continue our ongoing mission to provide intensive 0ne-to-one ABA therapy, family support and advocacy for those who are affected by autism in the Pikes Peak region.

To help rev up the fun we have with this event, we hold a contest each year to come up with a theme for our walk. We encourage anyone who has a great idea to submit it to our center. We also have created our Firstgiving donation page where you can register for the event, join a team, or donate and raise funds to Alpine directly from the site. We had a fantastic turn out last year and wonderful weather , with the largest participation we have ever seen. Please join us this year to help us continue to make our goal to serve as many people affected by autism in the Pikes Peak region as possible.

Thank you to all of our sponsors, parents, vendors and the community for helping Alpine bring awareness and treatment to an ever growing condition that affects the lives of so many.

If you would like more information about this event please feel free to contact our center at (719) 203-6903 or visit our Firstgiving home page at www.firstgiving.com/aaccs

Every few months Alpine hosts a Parent Support Group meeting opent o the public for those who are or know someone affected by autism. Each meeting our staff cover a variety of topics ranging from IEP’s, to diet changes, or how to help manage sibling rivalry.

So far we have had a very postive response from the families who join us for these meetings and we only hope to continue to grow. Since the meetings are completely free and we can sometimes offer free child care as well, our hope is to make the experience as simple and stressless as possible so that those who have never attendend have the opportunity to connect with other’s who are coping with similar situations without worry about scheduling.

For our upcoming meeting we will be discussing the curriculum we use here at Alpine, and we will be featuring 2 very special guests. Merrick William a C.A.R.D ( Center for Autism Related Disorders) representative who will be sharing information about the C.A.R.D curriculum and locatrion updates, as well as Joe Mohs, an author who has recovered from autism after years of intensive ABA treatment as a child. He will take us through the journey of his life after being diagnosed with autism to the place he is now, with a college degree and a sucessful career. All with the support of family and people like the staff at Alpine.

We invite each and every one of our readers to join us for this unique occasion on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 6:30pm. The meeting will be held here at our center, located at 2760 Fieldstone Road Colorado Springs, CO 80919. If you would like to be added to our mailing list for regular updates about upcoming Parent Support Group Metting please contact our center at (719)203-6903 or email us at Tana@alpineautism.org

Sometimes it’s difficult as a non-profit organization to continue coming up with different ideas that will help raise awareness about the things we are most passionate about….our students and their families! With all the technology out there we have multiple opportunities to spread the word, but how do you decide which one packs the most punch, and which ones will leave the best positive impact?

With so many events that pop up in the fall and winter seasons we decided to hit all of the typical areas…. social networking, flyers, postcard mailings, even word of mouth within our friend and family circles…. , but to really connect with our community, our loyal fans, families and community partners, a personal and intimate event to bring everyone together is the one thing that can leave the biggest impression.

So by now you’re probably wondering what we’re talking about ( if you haven’t guessed by the title)….

On November 12, 2011 , Alpine Autism Center will be hosting it’s first ever Premier Wine Tasting Gala! If that isn’t exciting enough, we will be featuring specialty wines from The Wine Seller and presenting a silent auction showcasing the brilliant art work of our very own students. Thanks to the help of some very lovely women and men who share the same passion as the staff of Alpine, and who made this event possible, we are hoping to make this affair an annual event. We want to continue to bring ongoing attention to the need for help the kiddos of our region can benefit from with the services that Alpine can offer.

If you like to dress up, have a taste for fine wine culture and one of a kind art work, try something new and join us for a formal evening of extravagance and artistic collections that are sure to show you the inspiration the Alpine staff is fortunate enough to experience everyday!

Tell us what you think of this exciting occasion and spread the news..it’s only one month away and we would love to let everyone know about the fun!

For more information you can call our center at (719)203-6903 or email us at Tana@alpineautism.org
